Bermondsey street is a great street, but I think you have to know to find it as it always seems tucked away to me. After 11 years in a job rarely taking a lunch break I am all over them now! Today was all about gossip & food at The Garrison. This is a little gastropub with cute decor and a cinema downstairs. Sadly, I didn’t think I could justify squeezing in a little movie as well 😉
There’s a decent looking menu, one of those ‘something for everyone’ types. I split a beetroot & goats cheese toastie and a veges quiche.
In my opinion, a toastie should be something that has gone in a sandwich press or a jaffle (love, always reminds me of my childhood), this was just two pieces of toast. The sandwich was tasty- beetroot & goats cheese is a great combo, but I was definitely disappointed
The quiche was good – asparagus & courgette and a nice crust that wasn’t too thick. It was off the special board though so not sure how often it features.
I guess I’d put this place in the category of nice enough but nothing that makes me dying to go back – especially with all the options on the street.
Value for money: reasonably priced
Service: fine, quick
Reservations: can do through open table but I don’t think it’s necessary
